Horringer Court is a middle school situated in Bury St Edmunds, for children between the ages of 9-13. We are one of only two middle schools remaining in Suffolk. Middle schools are special places – we offer a broad and balanced curriculum and our students are hardworking, well-mannered and enthused to learn. Our Ofsted inspection in March 2020 recognised the strong sense of community, the excellent behaviour and our ambitious expectations for the students.
Horringer Court Middle School was part of the small Bury St Edmunds All-through Trust working closely with Tollgate Primary school, Westley Middle and County Upper. In July 2020 the four schools joined Unity Schools Partnership. As well as benefitting from excellent support and development within USP, we maintain strong relationships with the schools that made up the All-through Trust. Our curriculum has been developed in conjunction with our other partner schools to deliver an all-through education. Children join us from many local Primary schools at Year 5 but also at Year 7.
All of our children follow a structured timetable made up of twenty lessons per week. In Key Stage 2 children have English and Maths each day with the remaining core and foundation subjects taking place through the week. Key Stage 3 has fewer English and Maths lessons but an increase in Science, Humanities and MFL.
Lessons are delivered in specialist teaching rooms, for example Science Labs and DT workshops, by specialist teachers.
We want every child who joins us to succeed, to be the best they can possibly be. We have an excellent reputation for providing quality pastoral support. Children will be in a small tutor group, supported by their Form Tutor and Head of Year. Importantly, we encourage children to seek the help of any adult in school if they need to. Small class sizes ensure that children can get the support they need with their learning. Our goal is develop children to become free thinking, independent learners.
